We all need role models in our lives, as long as they’re good ones. If someone else went through the same thing you’re going through and ended up making a breakthrough in the field, why shouldn’t you look up to them and take notes?
There seems to be a large and ever-increasing number of internet businessmen, all looking to make it big. Yet a few of them, through a combination of luck, knowledge, persistence and money to invest rose above all others and are now spearheading a new era. Here are 4 internet business tips from some of the leaders in the field.
#1: “Move fast and break things. Unless you are breaking stuff, you are not moving fast enough.” – Mark Zuckerberg
Few can argue that Zuckerberg isn’t a pioneer in his field. The owner of Facebook is one of the most successful businessmen alive, counting both internet and real-world ones. Since Facebook went planetary, they’ve distanced themselves from Mark’s early saying in order to sound more politically correct. But hey – if it got them to where they are now (playing a role in the lives of billions of people), who cares about PC?
#2: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help.” – Steve Jobs
The late, great Steve Jobs said this way back in 1994, but it certainly has a way of sticking in people’s minds. Jobs, the universally-respected co-founder of Apple, didn’t want people hesitating to ask for help when they need it most. For all the talk about self-made businessmen, pretty much everyone has had help at some point of their career – help that allowed them to get to where they are now. If you’re following your dream, there’s no room for shyness, and if you’re turned down, just ask the next person on your list.
- “Have a healthy disregard for the impossible. Stretch your goals.” – Larry Page
When Google’s co-founder has something to say about success, you better listen. Page is trying to make young entrepreneurs decide what’s possible on their own instead of having other people crush their dreams. After all, who would have thought that a single company ruling virtually every corner of the internet would be a possibility, outside of some dark totalitarian vision of the future? Page and his company clearly adhered to these words, and it landed them at the top of the world and still shooting for the stars.
- “Be ready to work.” Elon Musk
He’s been called the real-life Iron Man and the modern-day Tesla, and for good reason – Musk is a terrific businessman and an inventor whose work will probably have a huge impact on our future. Many don’t realize that Musk also co-founded PayPal, the world’s leading online bank and money-transfer tool. For all his brilliance and ingenuity, Musk’s message is simple: don’t expect to be the CEO with his alligator shoes on the table, reading sports news while others do your work for you. As the head of any company or business, you should be ready to work more than any one person in your employ – that’s how success is born.
